Filming & Photography

If you are a visitor to the Botanical Gardens using photos for personal use, then we encourage you to take as many photos and videos as you like. Permission is not required. However, please note that the use of drones is strictly prohibited.

Professional photographers are required to seek permission from us to undertake photo shoots within our grounds. This includes any commercial photo shoots, family photo shoots, weddings and small event photography. This is a requirement of the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens Act 2002. The fee for professional photographers is $150 per booking, including GST. This fee enables us to maintain the grounds that provide the spectacular backdrop for photography. The permit application must be submitted at least 7 days before the day of shooting. Please contact us for the permit application form.

Filming by media does not incur any costs. However, the marketing team requires as much notice and information as possible so the Gardens team can be notified, and permissions sought.

Fees and permissions for wedding photography is included in the hire packages for wedding venue hire at the Gardens.
