Are the Botanical Gardens accessible?
The Gardens are designed to be used by all visitors, from families with prams and young children, to the elderly and those with mobility impairments. We are open to all. Please be aware that the site has some steep areas. For more information, visit our

Can I fly a drone?
Drones are not permitted in the Gardens. Exceptions can only be made for commercial purposes associated with a filming permit and relevant insurances.
Can I bring food?
Visitors are welcome to bring their own food to enjoy while they are enjoying the Gardens. Commercial catering is not allowed to be brought into the Gardens, unless approved by the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens in association with an event or wedding.
Gas fires or BBQs are not permitted.
Can I bring alcohol?
You can bring personal alcohol to the Gardens for private consumption. Please drink responsibly and dispose of your litter thoughtfully.
To sell liquor or provide bars for an event, a special liquor permit is required and the written permission from the Director of the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens must be sought.
Can we gather a large group?
We welcome everyone; however, visitors to the Gardens must comply with the rules of entry and the
Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens Act 2002. To help us provide a wonderful experience for all visitors, please
notify us of any gathering larger than 100 people.
Can I bring my bike, skateboard or scooter?
For the safety of everyone, riding a bike, skateboard or scooter is not permitted at the Gardens. Fines may apply. Bikes, skateboards and scooters may be walked through the site.
Are ball games allowed?
For the protection of our rare and fragile plants, we do not allow ball games within the Gardens.
Can I bring my pet?
Service animals are welcome; however, to protect our precious flora and fauna, pets are not permitted in the Gardens.
Are marquees allowed?
Sorry but marquees are not permitted in The Gardens, except for major events accompanied by relevant permits.
Can I take clippings?
Unfortunately taking clippings or plant materials from the Gardens is not permitted. Our plants are carefully cultivated and maintained for everyone to enjoy. Please help us preserve our botanical collections by not removing any plant material..
Can I take photos?

Can I climb the trees?
Climbing trees in the Gardens is not permitted. This helps protect both the trees and the safety of our visitors.
Do weather conditions affect opening hours?
Yes, the Botanical Gardens may close in cases of high winds or severe weather conditions to ensure the safety of visitors and staff. Please check for updates during such conditions.
