Pinetum Collection

43

Species

mid 1800s

Established

Dating back to the mid-19th century, the Pinetum is the first collection established at the Botanical Gardens. The extent and diversity of this collection, and the rarity of some of the species within it, make the Pinetum one of the most significant collections of conifers in the southern hemisphere.

Underpinned by 'gardenesque' historically significant early plantings, some of the species represented are extremely rare in cultivation in Australia, Tasmania being the state climatically best suited to conifer cultivation.
