Conservation

Protecting Tasmania's rare and threatened species.

More than just beautiful places to visit, botanic gardens around the world are becoming increasingly important as repositories for rare and endangered plants.

The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens plays a vital role in the conservation of rare and threatened Tasmanian species through seed-banking, propagation, dissemination of specimens for environmental rehabilitation and the housing of 'ex situ' threatened species.

The Gardens' team is involved in monitoring and habitat restoration work and conservation programs to save plant species from environmental threats such as climate change, habitat destruction, invasive species, and over-exploitation.
