The area spanning the Australian Fernery to the Gatekeeper’s Cottage​ is currently closed as we develop an exciting new landscape.​ The Australian Fernery and Tasmanian Cool Temperate Rainforest expansion will open summer 2025/26.​​​


From ​Monday 28 April until September 2025, the northern end of Lower Domain Road will be closed for TasWater’s pipeline upgrade. During this period the northern entrance to the Gardens will remain closed. Please use the main entrance on Lower Domain Road or lower carpark entrance when visiting the Gardens.​

An opportunity to experience Tasmania's unique range of native flora all in one walkable 14-hectare site. Featuring the unique Subantarctic Plant House, a significant collection of heritage trees, and the site of the island's earliest colonial kitchen garden.

The Botanical Gardens offers scenic locations for outdoor events as well as indoor function spaces, an onsite restaurant, kiosk and gift shop. Open daily all year round (The Botanical Shop, Kiosk and Restaurant are closed on Christmas Day).
