The area spanning the Australian Fernery to the Gatekeeper’s Cottage​ is currently closed as we develop an exciting new landscape.​ The Australian Fernery and Tasmanian Cool Temperate Rainforest expansion will open summer 2025/26.​​​


From ​Monday 28 April until September 2025, the northern end of Lower Domain Road will be closed for TasWater’s pipeline upgrade. During this period the northern entrance to the Gardens will remain closed. Please use the main entrance on Lower Domain Road or lower carpark entrance when visiting the Gardens.​

The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens are open 7 days a week, 365 days a year. 

April to September – 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
October to March – 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.​

Please note that the Botanical Shop and the Pop-Up Cafe are closed on Christmas Day.

Location

The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens are within the Queens Domain, about two kilo​metres from the Hobart CBD.


Walk – The Botanical Gardens are appro​ximately 30 minutes’ walk in a northerly direction from the city. Start from the underpass at the end of Liverpool Street and stroll through the Soldiers Memorial Walk or take Lower Domain Road.

Bike – Cycling tracks run from the city, along both sides of the Tasman Highway towards the Tasman Bridge. Cycling access is available either from Lower Domain Road or from the intercity cycleway. Take care and dismount when crossing the busy Domain Highway. Bikes and scooters are not allowed to be ridden through the Gardens and must be walked.

Drive – The Botanical Gardens​ are five minutes’ drive from the Hobart CBD and there is car parking at both the main top entrance on Lower Domain Road and at the bottom entrance on the Domain Highway.

Bus – Various private bus and tour services include the Gardens on their tour around Hobart. Red Decker operate regular services to and from the Gardens.
